Titre: Topology Control Techniques for Energy Conservation in Wireless Sensor Networks
Résumé: The biggest challenge of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is managing the limited energy resources in the network in order to increase the network lifetime. This challenge is contributed by the fact that the sensor nodes are typically powered by battery, thus their energy sources are limited and often difficult to be replaced during deployment. As many applications are demanding a smaller size of sensor nodes, the size of the battery has to be reduced hence, resulting to lower battery capacity. Topology control is one of the leading energy conservation techniques. It is a multidimensional approach, allowing control over various network parameters to optimize network performance. This lecture will describe the energy issue in WSN and how topology control techniques can address this issue.
Courte biographie: Dr. Azrina Abd Aziz holds a position of a senior lecturer at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP). She is currently leading the Centre for Smart Assistive and Rehabilitative (SMART) under the Institute of Health & Analytics (IHA). She received herBachelor Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Hons) from University of Queensland, Australia in 1997 and worked in a semiconductor industry shortly after her graduation. Later she joined UTP in 2001 and continued her study in MSc. specialising in System Level Integration at the Institute for System Level Integration (ISLI), Scotland in 2003. In 2013, she completed her Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. Her recent research interests focus on energy-efficient techniques for topology control in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) and wireless body area networks (WBANs) for biomedical applications. Azrina is an executive committee member of IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) Malaysia, and in the past she was the Chair Elect of IEEE Malaysia Section Women in Engineering Affinity group and treasurer of IEEE RAS. She was also the reviewer of Computer Networks, Ad Hoc Networks, and IEEE Access.
