Title: Resource Allocation for Virtualized Networks and Services
Abstract:
Network Virtualization (NV) enables the multi-tenancy concept where multiple virtual networks co-exist over the same physical infrastructure. The resource allocation problem in NV has been extensively studied in different network domains; most notably Cloud datacenter and backbone networks. However, in cloud data centers, existing work assumes that all cloud services are unicast only. Further, the problem has been only addressed for single-layer backbone networks: IP or Optical. In this talk, I present two contributions that aim to bridge these gaps. The discussion will be divided in two parts: the first part focuses on the problem of resource allocation for multicast cloud services. This work is motivated by the large number of multicast services hosted in the Cloud today. The second part of the talk addresses the problem of Multi-layer Virtual Network Embedding in backbone networks. The increasing popularity of multi-layer networks for deploying backbones, combined with their unique characteristics, calls for the need to carefully investigate the resource provisioning problems arising from their virtualization.
Short Bio: Sara Ayoubi received her Ph.D. in Information and Systems Engineering from Concordia University, Montréal, Canada. In 2016 she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo, Canada. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow at Inria Paris with team MiMove. She has received several awards including the Dissertation Prize for Engineering and Computer Science, Best paper award at IEEE CloudNet 2015, co-recipient of the best paper award at IEEE/IFIP CNSM 2017, and selected as a rising star in EECS in 2017. She is a co-founder of the Montreal Operations Research Student Chapter. Her research interests are in the fields of operations research, networks, and computer systems.
