Abstract:

The advent of a new breed of enhanced multimedia services has put network operators into a position where they must simultaneously support innovative services while ensuring both end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) requirements and profitability. Information Centric Networks (ICN), a proposed future Internet technology, may aid in remedying the situation. Network slicing enables the co-existence of services and applications with very different characteristics on the same network infrastructure. Recently, Network Function Virtualization (NFV) has been touted as a cost-effective underlying technology in 5G networks to efficiently provision novel services. First, we address the problem of dynamic slicing of 5G core networks for content delivery over ICN-based Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) and traditional CDNs. A virtualized Evolved Packet Core (EPC)-based 5G is considered. The problem aims at maximizing the profit of slice assignment for the infrastructure provider who owns the resources while meeting the different QoS requirements for the subslices. Second, we present several orchestration issues, linked to cross-domain interactions and emphasized by the heterogeneity of underlying technologies and administrative authorities.

Biography:

Halima Elbiaze received the Master degree from University of Versailles, France, in 1998, and the Phd from University of Versailles, in March 2002. She is an associate professor at computer science department of Université du Québec à Montréal since June 2003. In 2005, Dr. Elbiaze received the Canada Foundation for Innovation Award to build her IP over the DWDM network Laboratory. Her research interests include intelligent optical networks, performance evaluation, traffic engineering, wireless networks, and next generation IP networks. She had been awarded many research grants from both public agencies (e.g. NSERC, FRQNT, CFI) and industry (e.g. Ericsson, Noviflow).
