Title: <\/strong> Privacy in Bitcoin Transactions: New Challenges From
\nBlockchain Scalability Solutions<\/p>\n

Abstract:<\/strong> Bitcoin has emerged as the most successful cryptocurrency
\nsince its appearance back in 2009. However, its main drawback to become
\na truly global payment system is its low capacity in transaction
\nthroughput. At present time, some ideas have been proposed to increase
\nthe transaction throughput with different impact on the scalability of
\nthe system. Some of these ideas propose to decouple standard
\ntransactions from the blockchain core, and to manage them through a
\nparallel payment network, sometimes referred as a lightning network,
\nrelegating the bitcoin blockchain only for transactions which
\nconsolidate multiple of those off-chain transactions. Such mechanisms
\ngenerate new actors in the bitcoin payment scenario, Payment Service
\nProviders, and new privacy issues arise regarding bitcoin users. In this
\ntalk, we provide a comprehensive description on the bitcoin lightning
\nnetwork and, we analyse its impact on user’s privacy and we outline some
\nresearch challenges on that topic.<\/p>\n

Short Bio:<\/strong> Jordi Herrera-Joancomart\u00ed is an associate professor at the
\nDepartment of Information and Communications Engineering in the
\nUniversitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona (UAB). He finished a graduate in
\nMathematics at Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona in 1994 and he received
\nhis Ph.D. degree in 2000 from Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Catalunya. His
\nresearch interests include topics in the field of cryptography, privacy
\nand computer security and more precisely in the field of blockchain
\ntechnology and cryptocurrencies, topics in which, according to SCOPUS,
\nhe is in the top 15th most active researchers. He has advised different
\nPhD thesis and has acted as a Principal Investigator in several research
\nprojects. He has coauthored over 90 research papers in both national and
\ninternational publications, the vast majority indexed in relevant
\nresearch indexes, like ISI-JCR, ISI-WoK, SCOPUS or DBLP. He regularly
\nacts as a peer reviewer for several important journals and as an
\nexternal reviewer for the European Commission as well as for the
\nAustrian Science Fund (FWF) and the Spanish Ministry of Science and
