\nProperties of frequency-swept sources<\/p>\n

Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n

Frequency swept sources are near infra-red lasers with a wavelength that periodically scan 100’s of nm at a frequency of a few hundreds of kHz. We will review the different types of swept-sources that are commonly used for optical imaging. In particular, we will concentrate on the coherence properties of Frequency Mode-Locked Lasers which are long fiber-based ring cavity lasers incorporating a semiconductor laser and a tunable filter. In particular, we will show how the instantaneous linewidth can vary from 100’s of MHz to 10’s of MHz depending on the dispersion, non-linearities of the SOA or the drive frequency of the filter.<\/p>\n

Biography<\/strong>
\nGuillaume Huyet is currently the Head of the Centre for Advanced Photonics & Process Analysis and Head of the Department of Physical Sciences at Cork Institute of Technology. He received his M.Sc. degree from ENS Lyon (France) in 1992 and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis (France) in 1995. Dr. Huyet is an international expert on the dynamics of semiconductor lasers, and his research interests include semiconductor devices for applications in communications and life science. He has been awarded three consecutive Science Foundation Ireland Principal Investigator Awards, and been PI on several EU FP7 grants, including coordinator of a Marie Curie Initial Training Network. He has published over 100 papers in international journals, and has supervised over 20 PhD students.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
