Thierry\u00a0LEJKIN<\/strong>, Senior Project Architect , Orange Innovation Networks, FRANCE &#8211; Encadrant de th\u00e8se<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>R\u00e9sum\u00e9 :<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Une augmentation sans pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent des capacit\u00e9s de communication avec les objets, en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, et leur adoption par le march\u00e9 a conduit \u00e0 une estimation de 29 milliards de connexions d&rsquo;appareils IoT d&rsquo;ici 2030 par le rapport de pr\u00e9vision d&rsquo;Ericsson. Cette estimation d\u00e9fie non seulement les fournisseurs de services Internet traditionnels, mais impose \u00e9galement l&rsquo;\u00e9volution aux architectures actuelles. Les op\u00e9rateurs de t\u00e9l\u00e9communications ont jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le majeur dans la connexion des personnes \u00e0 Internet et sont d\u00e9sormais oblig\u00e9s de s&rsquo;adapter aux objets communicants avec des demandes de trafic diverses et impr\u00e9visibles. \u00c0 cette fin, la softwarisation et la virtualisation des entit\u00e9s de r\u00e9seau ont largement contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 atteindre un haut degr\u00e9 de flexibilit\u00e9 et de scalabilit\u00e9, aidant ainsi les op\u00e9rateurs de t\u00e9l\u00e9communications \u00e0 mieux optimiser leurs CAPEX et OPEX face aux tendances actuelles du march\u00e9. Cependant, les indicateurs de performance cl\u00e9s rigoureux ou des propri\u00e9t\u00e9s telles que la fiabilit\u00e9 des r\u00e9seaux 5G et au-del\u00e0 d\u00e9pendent fortement de la disponibilit\u00e9. Pour assurer la disponibilit\u00e9, nous avons traditionnellement des solutions actives-actives ou veille-active qui sont des solutions co\u00fbteuses. Cela dit, les fonctions r\u00e9seau n\u00e9cessitent un deuxi\u00e8me degr\u00e9 de d\u00e9couplage &#8211; s\u00e9parer l&rsquo;informatique du stockage pour rendre les fonctions r\u00e9seau hautement r\u00e9silientes et donc fiables. L&rsquo;objectif de cette th\u00e8se est d&rsquo;\u00e9valuer si le concept de \u201csans-\u00e9tat\u201dpeut \u00eatre appliqu\u00e9 aux fonctions des r\u00e9seaux de t\u00e9l\u00e9communications. Compte tenu de l&rsquo;importance de cette \u00e9tude, nous collectons d&rsquo;abord les donn\u00e9es de trafic r\u00e9elles du r\u00e9seau de t\u00e9l\u00e9communications et analysons les m\u00e9triques de trafic qui sont g\u00e9r\u00e9es par les fonctions de r\u00e9seau d&rsquo;aujourd&rsquo;hui. Bien que le trafic de t\u00e9l\u00e9communications actuel soit en grande partie g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9 par une communication de type humain, il suffit d&rsquo;\u00e9valuer l&rsquo;impact de l&rsquo;int\u00e9gration du concept de \u201csans-\u00e9tat\u201d sur les fonctions actuelles du r\u00e9seau. Avec ces m\u00e9triques analys\u00e9es, nous choisissons le sch\u00e9ma appropri\u00e9 pour conserver les donn\u00e9es utilisateur en dehors de la fonction r\u00e9seau, ainsi que les aspects temporels du stockage et de la r\u00e9cup\u00e9ration conform\u00e9ment \u00e0 la d\u00e9finition des normes 3GPP d&rsquo;un service de stockage id\u00e9al pour le c\u0153ur de r\u00e9seaux\u00a0t\u00e9l\u00e9communications. Les op\u00e9rations du plan de contr\u00f4le sont d&rsquo;une importance significative pour permettre la fourniture de services de t\u00e9l\u00e9communications. Nous proposons le mod\u00e8le sans \u00e9tat pour les fonctions du plan de contr\u00f4le o\u00f9 les donn\u00e9es utilisateur sont conserv\u00e9es apr\u00e8s chaque message \u00e9chang\u00e9 entre les entit\u00e9s du r\u00e9seau. Compte tenu de la nature s\u00e9quentielle de l&rsquo;ex\u00e9cution de la proc\u00e9dure du plan de contr\u00f4le des t\u00e9l\u00e9communications, ce mod\u00e8le assure la transparence des pannes en \u00e9vitant de r\u00e9p\u00e9ter la demande de service. En plus d&rsquo;atteindre la r\u00e9silience, nous pr\u00e9sentons l&rsquo;importance des fonctions de plan de contr\u00f4le sans \u00e9tat dans la r\u00e9duction de la latence globale principalement induite lors de la proc\u00e9dure de handover. Un mod\u00e8le sans \u00e9tat quasi-local est propos\u00e9 pour les op\u00e9rations du plan utilisateur, o\u00f9 les donn\u00e9es utilisateur sont extraites et mises en cache \u00e0 la demande. Nous justifions le mod\u00e8le propos\u00e9 par l&rsquo;analyse d&rsquo;\u00e9tat, la conception et la d\u00e9rivation de m\u00e9triques d&rsquo;\u00e9tat. En outre, nous \u00e9valuons diverses architectures de r\u00e9seau adapt\u00e9es aux futures fonctions de r\u00e9seau sans \u00e9tat afin de maintenir le budget de retard de bout en bout de divers cas d&rsquo;utilisation des t\u00e9l\u00e9communications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Abstract : \u00ab\u00a0Design of the new &lsquo;stateless&rsquo; dynamically-managed universal control plane\u00a0\u00bb<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An unprecedented surge in communication capabilities to things, in general and their market adoption has lead to an estimation of 29 billion IoT device connections by 2030 by Ericsson forecast report. This estimate is not only challenging the traditional internet service providers but also mandating the evolution to the current architectures. Telecommunication operators played a major role in connecting people to the internet and are now compelled to accommodate communicating things with traffic demands that are diverse and unpredictable in nature. To that end, softwarization and virtualization of network entities have extensively helped to achieve a high degree of flexibility and scalability thereby helping telecom operators to better optimise their CAPEX and OPEX in the face of current market trends. However, the stringent key performance indicators or properties like reliability for 5G and beyond networks highly rely on the availability. To ensure availability, traditionally we have active-active or active-standby which are expensive solutions. Having said that, the network functions requires a second degree of decoupling -separating the computing from the storage to make the network functions highly resilient and hence reliable. The goal of this thesis is to evaluate if the concept of statelessness to be applied to telecom network functions. Given the significance of this study, we first collect the real traffic data from the telecom network and analyse the traffic metrics that are managed by today\u2019\u20ac\u2122s network functions. Though current telecom traffic is largely generated by human-type communication, it is sufficient to evaluate the impact of incorporating statelessness concept to current network functions. With these analysed metrics, we choose the appropriate schema to persist the user data outside of the network function, along with the temporal aspects of store and fetch adhering to the 3GPP standards definition of an ideal storage service for telecom core network scenario. Control-plane operations are of significant importance in enabling telecom service delivery. We propose the stateless model for control-plane functions where user data is persisted after every message being exchanged between network entities. Given the sequential nature of telecom control-plane procedure execution, this model provides failure transparency by avoiding reiterating service request. In addition to achieving resiliency, we present the importance of stateless control-plane functions in reducing overall latency mainly induced during handover procedure. A Quasi-Local stateless model, is proposed for user-plane operations, where the user data is fetched and cached on-demand basis. We justify the proposed model with the state analysis, design, and derivation of state metrics. Furthermore, we assess various network architectures suitable for future stateless network functions to maintain the End-to-End delay budget of diverse telecom use
