Pierre SENS, Professeur \u00e0 l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 de Paris 6 \u00ab\u00a0Pierre et Marie Curie\u00a0\u00bb .  <\/p>\n<p><strong>R\u00e9sum\u00e9 de th\u00e8se :<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> Cet expos\u00e9 analyse les perspectives large bande des r\u00e9seaux PMR, \u00e0 travers l&rsquo;\u00e9valuation du candidat LTE, et la proposition d&rsquo;une possible \u00e9volution du codage canal, la solution brevet\u00e9e des codes turbo \u00e0 protection non uniforme. <\/p>\n<p>Une premi\u00e8re \u00e9tude dans le chapitre 2 se concentre sur l&rsquo;analyse multi-couche et l&rsquo;identification des probl\u00e8mes cl\u00e9 des communications de voix et de vid\u00e9o sur un r\u00e9seau LTE professionel. Les capacit\u00e9s voix et vid\u00e9o sont estim\u00e9es pour les liens montant et descendant de la transmission LTE, et l&rsquo;efficacit\u00e9 spectrale de la voix en lien descendant est compar\u00e9e \u00e0 celle de PMR et GSM. <\/p>\n<p>Ce chapitre souligne certains points cl\u00e9 de l&rsquo;\u00e9volution de LTE. S&rsquo;ils etaient pas r\u00e9solus par la suite, LTE se verrait perdre de sa cr\u00e9dibilit\u00e9 en tant que candidat \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9volution de la PMR. Une telle caract\u00e9ristique cl\u00e9 des r\u00e9seaux PMR est le codage canal \u00e0 protection non uniforme, qui pourrait \u00eatre adapt\u00e9 au syst\u00e8me LTE pour une \u00e9volution aux contraintes de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 publique. <\/p>\n<p>Le chapitre 3 introduit cette proposition d&rsquo;\u00e9volution, qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 brevet\u00e9e: les turbo codes \u00e0 protection non uniforme integr\u00e9e. Nous proposons une nouvelle approche pour le codage canal \u00e0 protection non uniforme \u00e0 travers les codes turbo progressives hierarchiques. Les configurations parall\u00e8les et s\u00e9ries sont analys\u00e9es. Les m\u00e9canismes de protection non uniformes sont integr\u00e9s dans la structure de l&rsquo;encodeur m\u00eame \u00e0 travers l&rsquo;insertion progressif et hierarchique de nouvelles donn\u00e9es de l&rsquo;utilisateur.<br \/>\nLe turbo d\u00e9codage est modifi\u00e9 pour exploiter de fa\u00e7on optimale l&rsquo;insertion progressive de donn\u00e9es dans le processus d&rsquo;encodage et estimer hierarchiquement ces donn\u00e9es. Les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s des structures parall\u00e8les et s\u00e9ries sont analys\u00e9es \u00e0 l&rsquo;aide d&rsquo;une analogie aux codes pilotes, ainsi qu&rsquo;en regardant de plus pr\u00e8s leurs caract\u00e9ristiques de poids de codage.  Le taux de transmission virtuel et les repr\u00e9sentations des graphs factor fournissent une meilleure compr\u00e9hension de ces propri\u00e9t\u00e9s. Les gains de codage sont \u00e9valu\u00e9s \u00e0 l&rsquo;aide de simulations num\u00e9riques, en supposant des canaux de transmission radio statiques et dynamiques, et en utilisant des codes de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence. <\/p>\n<p>Enfin, dans le chapitre 4, l&rsquo;id\u00e9e brevet\u00e9 du code turbo parallal progressif et hierarchique (PPHTC) est \u00e9valu\u00e9e sur la plateforme LTE. Une description d\u00e9taill\u00e9e de l&rsquo;architecture des bearers de LTE est donn\u00e9e, et ses cons\u00e9quences sont discut\u00e9es. Le nouveau codage canal est ins\u00e9r\u00e9 et \u00e9valu\u00e9 sur cette plateforme, et ses performances sont compar\u00e9es avec des sch\u00e9mas de transmission typique \u00e0 LTE. L&rsquo;analyse de la qualit\u00e9 de la voix aide \u00e0 conclure sur l&rsquo;efficacit\u00e9 de la solution propos\u00e9e dans un syst\u00e8me de transmission r\u00e9el. <\/p>\n<p>Pourtant, m\u00eame si cette derni\u00e8re donne les meilleurs r\u00e9sultats, d&rsquo;avantage d&rsquo;optimisations devraient \u00eatre envisag\u00e9es pour obtenir des gains am\u00e9lior\u00e9s et mieux exploiter le potentiel du codage propos\u00e9. L&rsquo;expos\u00e9 se conclut dans le chapitre 5 et une courte discussion pr\u00e9sente les futures perspectives de recherche.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abstract :<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This dissertation analyzes the PMR broadband perspectives, through the evaluation of the preferred candidate,  LTE, and the proposal of a possible channel coding evolution, the patented solution of unequal error  protection embedded turbo codes. A first study in chapter 2 focuses on the multi-layer analysis and the identification  of key issues for professional-like LTE for voice and video communications. The voice and video  capacities are estimated for both downlink and uplink LTE transmissions, and the downlink LTE voice system  efficiency is compared with that of the PMR and Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM). This  chapter helps highlighting some of the key points. If not resolved, the latter could lead to the LTE downfall as  a candidate for the PMR evolution. One such key characteristic of PMR systems is the unequal error protection<\/p>\n<p>channel coding technique, which might be adapted to the LTE technology for its evolution to public safety  requirements. Chapter 3 further introduces the proposed evolution patented ideas: the unequal error protection  embedded turbo codes. We propose a new approach for the unequal error protection channel coding through<\/p>\n<p>the progressive hierarchical turbo codes. Both parallel and serial turbo configurations are closely studied. The  unequal error protection mechanisms are embedded in the encoder\u2019s structure itself through the progressive  and hierarchical insertion of new data. The turbo decoding is modified as to optimally exploit the progressive<\/p>\n<p>insertion of information in the encoding process and hierarchically estimate the corresponding data. Both parallel  and serial configurations\u2019 properties are analyzed using an analogy with a pilot code behavior, as well as  a zoom on the weight error functions coefficients. The virtual code rate and factor graph interpretations also<\/p>\n<p>provide a better insight on the code properties. The code possible gains are highlighted through computer simulations  in both static and dynamic transmission environements, by using carefully chosen benchmarks. Finally,  in chapter 4, the patented idea of parallel progressive hierarchical turbo codes (PPHTC) is evaluated over the<\/p>\n<p>LTE platform. A detailed description is given of the voice transmission bearer architecture over LTE, and its  consequences are discussed. The new channel code is inserted and evaluated over this platform and its performances  compared with the existent LTE transmission schemes. The voice quality results help concluding on the<\/p>\n<p>efficiency of the proposed solution in a real transmission scenario. However, even though the newly presented  solution gives the best results, further system optimizations should be envisaged for obtaining better gains and  exploit the parallel progressive hierarchical turbo codes potential.
