Stuart CLAYMAN, Principle Research Fellow, Department of Electronic Engineering at University College London, ROYAUME-UNI &#8211; Rapporteur<\/p>\n<p><strong>R\u00e9sum\u00e9 :<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>La cinqui\u00e8me g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de r\u00e9seaux cellulaires mobiles, 5G, est con\u00e7ue pour prendre en charge un ensemble de nouveaux cas d&rsquo;utilisation et exigences, par exemple concernant la qualit\u00e9 de service ou la s\u00e9curit\u00e9. En utilisant les technologies de virtualisation et le concept de d\u00e9coupage de r\u00e9seau, les op\u00e9rateurs de r\u00e9seau 5G seront en mesure de fournir des capacit\u00e9s de connectivit\u00e9 sp\u00e9cifiques afin de prendre en charge ces diff\u00e9rents cas d&rsquo;utilisation. Chaque tranche de r\u00e9seau (network slice) peut \u00eatre d\u00e9di\u00e9e \u00e0 un tiers (c&rsquo;est-\u00e0-dire tout acteur commercial qui n&rsquo;est pas l&rsquo;op\u00e9rateur de r\u00e9seau) et \u00eatre con\u00e7ue pour r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 ses besoins. Cependant, bien que les tranches de r\u00e9seau puissent \u00eatre con\u00e7ues en activant ou en d\u00e9sactivant certaines fonctions r\u00e9seau, les m\u00e9canismes d&rsquo;authentification et de contr\u00f4le d&rsquo;acc\u00e8s (AAC) restent les m\u00eames pour toutes les tranches, avec des composants r\u00e9seau \u00e9troitement coupl\u00e9s. Cette th\u00e8se propose 5G-SSAAC (5G Slice-Specific AAC), comme premi\u00e8re \u00e9tape pour introduire une conception \u00e0 couplage plus l\u00e2che dans l&rsquo;ensemble de l&rsquo;architecture de r\u00e9seau 5G. 5G-SSAAC permet aux r\u00e9seaux 5G de fournir divers m\u00e9canismes AAC aux tiers selon leurs exigences de s\u00e9curit\u00e9. Pour \u00e9valuer ce m\u00e9canisme innovant, la th\u00e8se analyse les cons\u00e9quences de l&rsquo;utilisation du 5G-SSAAC sur la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 de l&rsquo;ensemble du syst\u00e8me 5G. La faisabilit\u00e9 du 5G-SSAAC est \u00e9galement pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e avec la mise en \u0153uvre d&rsquo;un r\u00e9seau mobile enti\u00e8rement virtualis\u00e9 via un banc d&rsquo;essai bas\u00e9 sur OAI (Open Air Interface). Ce travail \u00e9value enfin l&rsquo;impact du m\u00e9canisme 5G-SSAAC sur la charge du r\u00e9seau compte tenu du nombre pr\u00e9vu de messages de signalisation AAC par rapport aux m\u00e9canismes AAC existants dans les r\u00e9seaux cellulaires.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abstract :<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The fifth generation of mobile cellular networks, 5G, is designed to support a set of new use cases and requirements, e.g. concerning quality of service or security. Using the virtualization technologies and the concept of network slicing, the 5G network operators will be able to provide specific connectivity capabilities in order to support these various use cases. Each network slice can be dedicated to a 3rd party (i.e., any business actor that is not the network operator), and be designed to fit its requirements. However, although network slices can be designed by enabling or disabling certain network functions, the Authentication and Access Control (AAC) mechanisms remain the same for all slices, with tightly coupled network components. This thesis proposes 5G-SSAAC (5G Slice-Specific AAC), as an initial step to introduce a more loosely coupled design into the whole 5G network architecture. 5G-SSAAC enables 5G networks to provide various AAC mechanisms to the 3rd parties according to their security requirements. To assess this innovative mechanism, the thesis analyses the consequences of using the 5G-SSAAC on the security of the whole 5G system. The feasibility of the 5G-SSAAC is also presented with the implementation of a fully virtualized mobile network through an OAI (Open Air Interface) based testbed. This work finally evaluates the impact of 5G-SSAAC mechanism on the network load considering the anticipated number of AAC signalling messages compared to the existing AAC mechanisms in cellular
