François Desbouvries received the Engineer Degree in Telecommunications (1987), the Ph.D. degree in Signal and Image Processing (1991), both from Telecom Paris, France, and the Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR) in Signal Processing from the Marne la Vallée University, France (2001). He is a full Professor at Telecom SudParis.

His areas of interest are statistical signal processing and data science, and in particular Bayesian statistics and inference in hidden data models, sequential Monte Carlo methods, and variational inference. Click here for a brief description of his main results.

François Desbouvries is an IEEE Senior Member (2007). From 2014 to 2018 he has been an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing journal.

From 2014 to 2017 he has been a member of ANR (the French main funding agency) scientific committees (responsible for evaluation and ranking of grant applications).

From 2019 to 2023 he has been one of the Associate Scientific Directors of “GdR ISIS” (Information, Signal, Image and Vision) in charge of the topic “Methods and models in signal processing” (GDR ISIS is a CNRS-funded national network with ~3000 members from 150 research labs, and an important structure devoted to fostering and advancing signal & image processing in France).

From 2008 to 2019 he has been the head of the “Information processing for images and communications” team of the SAMOVAR lab (~ 20 researchers).

Since 2020, he has been the Director of the SAMOVAR lab (104 permanent researchers. SAMOVAR is a laboratory specialized in Information and communication sciences and technologies, and is one of the 32 labs of the Research Center of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris).
